I was born in Newcastle in 1971, and grew up in Newcastle and the Hunter Valley. I went to various primary schools in Sandy Hollow, Scone, Nelson Bay and Dudley and finished high school at Whitebridge High in 1989.
I spent my early adulthood working for my parents and in a ski shop in Newcastle as well as working casually at NBN Television as Big Dog’s “personal assistant” before starting in the media advertising and marketing profession. I worked in sales and promotions at various radio stations such as:
2NM/POWERFM Hunter Valley
NXFM Newcastle
NEWFM Newcastle
2ST/POWERFM Nowra
The River 105.7 Albury
4RO/SeaFM Rockhampton
Along the way, I met and married a wonderful woman called Joanne, and together we now run a small but successful Newcastle and Central Coast web design business called Net Perceptions. We also have an online shop called Shop Naturally selling all-natural cleaning products and beauty care and BPA-free and stainless steel water bottles.
We have three border collies called Jess, Jedi and Jaina who we treat like furry children seeing as we cannot have any human ones. If we could find some kids online to adopt we probably would, but it seems Madonna and Angelina Jolie have the market on that!
I had a book on internet marketing published. It is very outdated and talks up MySpace – no mention of Facebook or Twitter!
When not working, spending time with Joanne or throwing frisbees at the furrykids, I like endurance sports like swimming, cycling, running, paddling and speed skating – even though I’m pretty average at all of them.
So, what’s this blog all about?
Towards the end of 2010 I started getting a bit jaded with ‘traditional’ triathlons, and as 2011 rang in I had decided to focus more on offroad multisport races. Offroad triathlons, adventure races and events that feature paddling kayaks or skis and mountain biking in dirt rather than road cycling in nice clean lycra.
Part of this last reason was because skin-tight lycra shows off every wobbly bit I’d rather hide!
So I thought I’d create a blog to chuck up race reports and critiques of the various races and events I plan on doing, mainly for the two or three friends that might want to read them. I might also do a bit of a write-up on training highlights and just random thoughts here and there on damn near anything that crosses my warped little mind.
